Thank you so much for caring about the welfare of homeless dogs, and other animals, by considering becoming a foster carer.
Regardless of where you live, rescues all over the UK are in need of caring fosterers to offer dogs a much-needed break from kennelling while they wait for their forever home. There are also some rescues that do not use kennels at all and operate a foster-only programme because the dogs they rescue would not do well in kennels. This includes rescues that are specialists in the rehabilitation of ex-puppy farming breeding dogs.
Every rescue has their own criteria for becoming a foster carer so please contact them directly to find out more.

Greyhound Rescue and Co-ordinated Emergencies (G.R.A.C.E.) – (dogs) UK wide
We are a small, independent foster based rescue, based in the North East. However, we have and will transport our dogs throughout the UK for the right home. We don’t use kennels as we want a dog to be in a home environment from the day they come into our care. All the dogs go straight into foster and this puts a limit to the number of dogs that can be helped at any given time. Fostering also gives the dogs a better chance at finding a home.

Also, puppies’ risk of contracting the potentially deadly parvovirus is much less in a foster home than in kennels, where most of the dogs have unknown vaccination history.

Second Chance Animal Rescue is based in Southampton. We are a small rescue that deals with dogs, cats, small animals, and wildlife. We have a dedicated team of volunteers that enable us to help as many animals as we possibly can. For over 30 years we have been helping animals find new homes that they can be happy in, but as always, there are more animals that need help than there are homes. Some of the many things we do here are: – to hand-raise orphaned animals, and in the case of wildlife, release them back into the wild when they are old enough; vaccinate and microchip all animals for rehoming, and treat any illness or injury of the animals in our care.

Swindon Needy Dogs – (dogs) UK wide
A foster home is a stop gap between an old life and the start of a new life. Dogs that come to us have either been found as a stray and in this case we would have very little information on the dog or the dog has been handed in by an owner unable to continue to provide for their pet. Sometimes these dogs have medical conditions or need socialisation. Fostering helps dogs no end. If we didn’t have wonderful foster homes we couldn’t do what we do.
