Thank you so much for caring about the welfare of homeless dogs, and other animals, by considering becoming a foster carer.
Regardless of where you live, rescues all over the UK are in need of caring fosterers to offer dogs a much-needed break from kennelling while they wait for their forever home. There are also some rescues that do not use kennels at all and operate a foster-only programme because the dogs they rescue would not do well in kennels. This includes rescues that are specialists in the rehabilitation of ex-puppy farming breeding dogs.
Every rescue has their own criteria for becoming a foster carer so please contact them directly to find out more.

Abused Pet Refuge Project – (all pets) – UK wide
Created in 2019, the founding trustee felt it was time that something more was done to help those victims of domestic abuse who don’t seek help because they won’t leave a pet behind. Many perpetrators of domestic abuse use threats or actual harm of pets to control partners and children. By fostering pets in secure accommodation, we make it possible for their humans to get out and get help. Our amazing team of trustees, campaigners and fosterers are dedicated to work hard to help rescue all members of the family affected by domestic abuse. We will do our utmost to always find a foster carer who can be trusted to look after the pets of domestic abuse victims until they can be reunited. We save lives, animal and human. We also fight to change the law where appropriate.

We are a UK based French Bulldog rescue, run by friendly and dedicated volunteers. The group was set up in response to seeing the inhumane treatment of some French Bulldogs. Some of these poor dogs are currently living in horrible conditions, left outside, cold, abused and often denied veterinary care. We are not going to be able to help every dog, we know that. But through fundraising and education, we can make a difference together. With your help and support we will be able to change the lives of these dogs, and give them a happy and healthy life.

Friends of Akitas Trust UK – (dogs) UK wide
We are Akita enthusiasts, who felt that we could do more to help Akitas in need.
Every week numbers of Akitas end up in council pounds with only seven days to find a home before destruction. We aim to get as many of these Akitas as possible into ’safe’ kennels or foster homes and ultimately into new forever homes. That’s not to say that we will only help ‘Poundies’. Our objective is to help, rescue where necessary, rehabilitate and rehome any Akita which needs it, through assessing both dog and potential owners, to ensure a well-matched and long lasting, happy relationship. This would not be possible without the help of our dedicated team of volunteers – from going into dismal pounds to carrying out initial assessments to ensuring support for adopters for the rest of their Akita’s life. If you would like to become a foster carer, we would love to hear from you.

Greyhound Rescue and Co-ordinated Emergencies (G.R.A.C.E.) – (dogs) UK wide
We are a small, independent foster based rescue, based in the North East. However, we have and will transport our dogs throughout the UK for the right home. We don’t use kennels as we want a dog to be in a home environment from the day they come into our care. All the dogs go straight into foster and this puts a limit to the number of dogs that can be helped at any given time. Fostering also gives the dogs a better chance at finding a home.

Wellingborough Dog Welfare, or Wellidog as we are more fondly known is a local charity in Grendon, Northamptonshire, and we are dedicated to making life easier for strays and unwanted dogs locally from surrounding areas. With so many abandoned and unwanted dogs entering kennels every day we are committed to finding loving homes for all of our dogs. We are a no-kill shelter who believe that second hand dogs make first class friends, and we work around the clock to raise funds to care for the dogs in our care while we search for their perfect forever home.

West Yorkshire Dog Rescue – (dogs) West Yorkshire
We work primarily in West Yorkshire but sometimes our activities extend beyond. We take dogs from owners who are unable to keep them and unwanted strays from pounds. We do not normally use kennels unless it is an extreme emergency to save a dog’s life and then only for a very short period. We keep our dogs as happy as possible whilst they await their forever home and so they are fostered in the homes of kind volunteers.

Wonky Pets Rescue was established in 2012. We specialise in all sorts of rescue animals who have issues, whether they be physical, medical or psychological. We are a non destruct rescue which means that animals that are deemed unrehomable remain with us for life. We operate from foster homes mainly around the Midlands, Shropshire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire. We are all volunteers and we receive no funding to help run the rescue, we rely solely on donations and our regular fundraising efforts to fund the treatment for the animals in our care.

Wythall Animal Sanctuary – (all pets) West Midlands
We are a registered, independent charity who have been looking after and rehoming animals for over 50 years. Originally set up by Kath and Dave Davies in 1968, the sanctuary still works to the same values, to shelter and help rehome as many animals as we can. We are a non-destruct sanctuary, keeping animals for as long as is needed until they find their forever homes or occasionally for the entirety of their lives. Sometimes we have animals in our care that for one reason or another would be better situated in a home environment rather than here at the Sanctuary.
